U.S. to Pursue Extradition of Do Kwon Despite Montenegro Court’s Decision
The extradition battle between the United States and South Korea over Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon continues, as U.S. authorities announce their intention to appeal a Montenegro court’s ruling in favor of Do Kwon’s extradition.
Uncertainty Remains as Do Kwon’s Legal Team Weighs Options
After multiple appeals and legal proceedings, the fate of Do Kwon remains uncertain. It is not yet known if his legal team will appeal the latest decision to extradite him to South Korea, as they have not provided a clear indication.
U.S. Government Takes a Stand Against Terra’s Co-Founder
In response to the Montenegro court’s ruling, the U.S. Department of Justice declares their intention to continue seeking Do Kwon’s extradition through international and bilateral agreements and in accordance with Montenegrin law.
“The United States appreciates the cooperation of the Montenegrin authorities in ensuring that all individuals are subject to the rule of law,” the Justice Department stated, as reported by Bloomberg.
Global Authorities Keep Close Watch on Do Kwon
Amidst the legal battle, global authorities including Interpol have been monitoring Do Kwon’s case. This comes after the collapse of Terra in 2022, which resulted in billions of dollars in losses for investors. Do Kwon had fled to Montenegro, where he was arrested for possession of falsified official documents.
