Unprecedented Purchase: Famous Trader Acquires Iconic Meme for a Whopping $4M and Causes Rise in WIF Value
Achi, the beloved dog sporting a pink beanie hat, was recently sold for an impressive 1,210 ETH in an auction hosted by crypto platform Foundation. The winning bid was placed by GCR, a renowned trader known for their market insights and accurate predictions.
GCR’s involvement in the auction caused a 10% surge in the price of WIF, the popular meme coin inspired by Achi’s viral picture. With their reputation in the crypto community, GCR’s interest in the auction sparked a bidding war and ultimately led to the highest sale price.
According to reports, the winning bidder is GiganticRebirth, also known as GCR in the crypto world. They purchased the original photo for a whopping $4 million worth of ETH. The photo, which features Achi sporting a small hat, became an instant internet sensation and later evolved into the meme coin $wif.
Initially listed for a modest 0.15 ETH, the auction quickly became a battle between GCR, under the alias “PleasrDAO”, and Memeland, another crypto project. After nearly an hour of intense bidding, GCR secured the winning bid with 1,210 ETH.
In a recent interview, crypto investor @cryptopathic revealed that their team organized the auction and confirmed that GCR was the winning bidder. GCR’s reputation precedes them, having been among the top traders on now-defunct exchange FTX in 2021-22. Their insightful market analysis and ability to predict market movements months in advance gained them a huge following on X, a popular platform for crypto enthusiasts.
Their fame only grew when they accurately predicted the market top in 2022, making profitable short trades on 30 overvalued tokens. Despite their identity remaining a mystery and their departure from X in April 2023, their posts continue to be cited and shared on the platform.
In a clear display of the power of memes and their impact on the crypto world, the price of WIF saw a 10% increase in just one hour following GCR’s involvement in the auction. It seems that their connection to the beloved Achi has further solidified the popularity of this viral meme coin.
