IOTA, XDK2MAM and Bosch XDK: By 2020, more than 20 billion devices will be connected

By 2020, there will be more than 20 billion connected devices interacting in different ways and generating huge amounts of data. Currently, the data is mainly limited to controlling a few units and is not available to the large masses. Therefore, not everyone can develop new applications or business areas. Especially in times when data is becoming increasingly important, IOTA’s Data Marketplace is a counterpart to the status quo.

The IOTA market is a decentralized data market that aims to make data available to all clearing houses. The data is captured and marketed in real time by connected devices such as the Bosch XDK. In addition, the data market enables secure sales and access to active data streams. As a user of the IOTA Data Marketplace, you have the ability to buy or sell MAM-encrypted data (masked, authenticated messages).

Next, there will be more at MAM. First, we want to explain the role of XDK in the IOTA ecosystem.

The role of Bosch XDK in the IOTA ecosystem

The Bosch XDK (Cross Domain Development Kit) is a programmable sensor device and Internet prototyping platform of things for any type of application you can imagine. In addition, it can be used as a powerful sensor node solution. It combines state-of-the-art MEMS sensor technology, WiFi, BLE, an SD card slot, and ready-to-use software packages. This makes it possible to realize almost any conceivable IoT application.

The XDK was developed for people of all programming levels and the required information material is free of charge for all users. In this context, it allows you to implement various projects using the XDK as a starting point. In short, with Bosch XDK, specific data can be captured in real time and sold through the IOTA data market.

XDK2MAM serves as a bridge between Bosch XDK and IOTA.

As mentioned earlier, the IOTA data market offers the possibility to buy or sell MAM-encrypted data (masked authenticated messaging). Previously, there was no open source code to link Bosch XDK and IOTA. The members of XDK2MAM, consisting of the founders Daniele de Michele and Alejandro Elustondo as well as Daniel Trauth as consultant of RWTH Aachen University, have set themselves the goal to make this open source code available to the IOTA community. They offered a simple and well-documented solution that is also understandable for non-experts by connecting the XDK to the Tangle IOTA via HTTP, MQTT and BLE.
