IOTA Reddit – A quick introduction from the Online Community Liaison

Hi r/Iota! A quick introduction from the Online Community Liaison  Andrew Greve:

“Hi everyone,

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Andrew Greve. I was recently brought into the IOTA Foundation (IF) to serve as the Online Community Liaison (OCL). You can read my welcome blog post here. It’s really my pleasure to introduce myself to everyone here and tell you a little bit about my role at the Foundation as well as how important this subreddit is to not only my job, but to the Foundation and to IOTA itself.

The context of my role is that we have a large and thriving community, and information flow between IF and community members is an issue of growing importance. Everyone loves to know what is going on in IF, and it is equally important for IF to be aware of developments in the community. As much as the founders and developers love to spend time interacting with everyone, the sheer amount of pings and emails that these hard-working people get on a daily basis means that they cannot possibly find time to engage with everyone at all times of the day.

My role is to serve as a community advocate within IF, as well as to a source of information for the community and a point of contact for people who have questions or feedback. You are likely aware that over the past couple months, IF has spent considerable effort to streamline internal processes for work and information flow. By establishing a direct link to the community with the OCL position, each community member is brought into the process in a way that gives a greater opportunity to be heard, and a greater opportunity for IF to be responsive.

There are a few concrete ways that I will be involved with this sub:

  • Helping respond to questions, and referring questions to the appropriate people in IF who can come and give a more helpful response than me about a specific topic
  • I’m always available via direct message if you have any questions or feedback
  • Helping organize AMAs with myself and other foundation members
  • We will start a weekly round-up series, which we hope will be more informal opportunities to answer questions about the week’s happenings, and just have a bit of fun with myself and other foundation members
  • I’ll be assisting with announcement threads posted by IF

As I mentioned above, this sub is truly a key element of our online community. It is often peoples’ first point of contact with the community. The users here are also some of our most active ambassadors to the rest of Reddit and other social media. So I hope we all share the idea that this space should provide the opportunity for people on all sides to learn, not only about the tech we all love so much, but about how to communicate effectively with others.

On a slightly more personal note – I was surprised after my blog post to find that people I know personally who are not into IOTA or crypto at all were finding the news about me joining the Foundation on mainstream financial news websites, or their Google news feeds. I guess it makes sense when you think about it — hire a developer and it’s not news — but hire someone in a community manager type position, and it is actually a signal to the “outside world” that we really have something going on here. Moreover, that this gets reported at all this is evidence that we are breaking into the mainstream! So kudos to us all for our progress, and I sincerely look forward to working with you all to take our community to the next level!

–Andrew

TL;DR: I am serving the Online Community Liaison at the IOTA Foundation. I am here to help streamline communications between IF and the community. Look out for some more interaction with myself and other foundation members on this subreddit.”
