Luigi Vigneri Ph.D. is a computer scientist with experience in network modeling, graph and queueing theory, large-scale optimization and performance evaluation of networks. He will be joining the Foundation as a senior research scientist.

In 2014, Luigi received his Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. During his studies, he joined a double degree program and obtained a Master of Science in Computer Science from Télécom ParisTech, France. In 2017, he obtained his Ph.D. in Mobile Communications from EURECOM, France, with a thesis on caching popular content in vehicular networks. After that, Luigi joined Huawei Research Lab in Paris as a postdoctoral researcher working on 5G networks, online machine learning and artificial intelligence.

His background combines both theoretical (network modeling, convex optimization) and programming (C, C++, Python, MATLAB) skills. Such a powerful combination is a great added value that gives him the opportunity to deeply understand new problems and to implement effective solutions. His relevant previous works span various domains such as mobile data offloading through caching and traffic monitoring for Android apps. Despite his young age, his portfolio includes publications in top-ranked journals (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications), and he has presented his works in several International conferences.

On joining IOTA

I believe IOTA to be one of the most ambitious and relevant projects in cryptocurrencies. From a practical perspective, IOTA has the potential to change the world by pushing and promoting the spread of the Internet of Things technologies. From a theoretical point of view, it introduces an innovative model, the Tangle, to overcome blockchain limitations. Hence, IOTA is the ideal playground for a research scientist since it gives the opportunity to elaborate and develop new models which could be rapidly implemented in a very dynamic and changing environment.

I feel really motivated to join the Foundation, and to give my support to deal with the interesting mathematical challenges behind the Tangle.

Luigi understands the challenges and the potential of the IOTA Tangle and has the required background to participate in tackling those challenges and releasing its true potential. We are delighted to have him join the research team. Please give Luigi a warm welcome!
